Matcha – “the elixir of immortals” - has been consumed for centuries, originating in China and later in Japan. Samurai and Zen monks would consume the tea during their meditations to centre and calm their minds, whilst giving them sustained energy to stay focused without caffeine jitters.
The powder is renowned for its high antioxidant content, which is conducive to health and longevity. One serve of matcha is equivalent to drinking 10 cups of steeped green tea, with some studies showing it contains 14 times the amount of antioxidants in wild blueberries.
These special antioxidants found in matcha are known as catechins, which fight free radicals that cause cancer in the body. Other benefits of matcha include:
- Blood detoxifier and alkalizer
- Mood enhancer
- Energy booster
- Mental alertness and clarity
