Brew Guide: Ceremonial Matcha
The tea ceremony is an important part of Japanese culture. It is a thoughtful ritual of preparing matcha with complete mindfulness. Ceremonial grade matcha is made of the most premium quality tea leaves, meaning it contains the highest level of nutritional value.
To prepare your own matcha at home, you will need:
- Ceremonial grade matcha
- Matcha bowl
- Bamboo whisk
- Water boiled to 80-85°C
- Scoop out 1-1.5g of ceremonial grade matcha and sift into the bowl. Sifting will remove any lumps and ensure your matcha will have a smooth consistency
Pour 70-80ml of hot water into the bowl. Water that is too hot can burn your matcha and result in an unpleasant bitter taste
Whisk the matcha with the bamboo whisk in an up and down (or “W”) motion for approximately 30 seconds, until a frothy suspension appears
Your matcha is now ready. Drink and enjoy the zen!
